EDUCATION
____________
James MacKay Foundation, Inc. supports the only residential national school
for learners with visual impairment – the Philippine National School for the
Blind (PNSB). As JMF supports the talented students of PNSB, it transforms
the lives of the visually impaired, making them productive citizens of the
country.
A good example of this are the deserving scholars of James MacKay Foundation, Inc., who are now both teaching in PNSB: Ms. GraceGarrol and Mr. Ronald Manguiat. Ms. Garrol graduated from St. Paul University Manila with a degree in Music Education while Mr. Ronald Manguiat is a graduate of Philippine Normal University with a degree in
English Education.
Only 2 out of 10 students from PNSB are able to PURSUE COLLEGE.
Ronald Manguiat became blind at the age of 1, when most children enjoy the beauty and blitheness of fancy childhood. Ronald wanted to give up during his school-age as he felt that his situation is becoming more challenging. Through James MacKay Foundation Inc.’s help. In 2012, he was able to finish his degree on Bachelor of Science in Education, Major in English at Philippine Normal University. He was the only visually impaired graduate of the university wherein no special treatments were given. He proved how visually impaired people are capable to be as sighted ones.
Ms. Grace Tapan Garrol had her preparatory school at the Resources for the Blind wherein she learned the basics about Braille and how to move around with a cane. Introduced to music at such an early age, Ms. Grace inspired so many people through singing and dancing. Ms. Grace completed her primary and secondary years of education at Philippine National School for the Blind. Expressing herself through her God-given talents, Ms. Grace became a part of the group who represented the Philippines in dierent countries in Asia for the music festival and disability day celebration. Through the help of James MacKay Foundation Inc., Ms. Grace was able to nish her education at St. Paul University Manila with a degree of Bachelor of Music Education major in Voice, minor in Piano. Now that she’s a licensed teacher, she’s now teaching at the Philippine National School for the Blind.
In addition, with the partnership of Van Kessel Oile’ and the James MacKay foundation Inc., we can extend more help to the community by adding more scholars from primary to tertiary level to provide equal opportunity to deserving and curious young minds.
